Grass Fed Beef
We raise Black Angus beef from birth to butcher. From the time the calves are born they are in their natural environs – on the farm, with the herd, eating grass. This means that they are not shipped to a feed lot, not force fed grain for quick weight gain, nor are they given growth hormones or antibiotics.
We use a rotational grazing process as our stock is moved on a regular basis to fresh forage. We recently entered the CREP (conservation reserve enrichment program) program and all livestock are fenced out of all waterways and fresh clean water is provided in each paddock through the use of automatic water facilities.
Our beef can either be purchase by the piece or in larger increments from an 1/8th to a whole steer. All of our beef undergoes USDA inspection.
Lambs For Sale
We are very happy to be able to provide The Staunton Grocery with lamb. Chef Ian Boden is very pleased with the lamb we provide him. We currently have lamb available. If you are interested in purchasing lamb by the piece or in larger increments please let us know so we can send you a commitment form. All lambs not spoken for will be sold to the Staunton Grocery when they reach appropriate size.
All our lambs are grass fed and grass finished. The only time any sheep are fed grain is during gestation and lactation as sheep need tremendous amounts of energy during the last 6 six of gestation. We provide grain to our ewes during this time to keep our flock healthy. Worms are a huge problem in sheep and can be fatal if left untreated. Our method for worming is to do so only when absolutely necessary as a wormed ewe is better than a very sick ewe. Many of our lambs have never received any wormer and NONE have ever received any hormones or antibiotics.
Free Range Eggs
We approach our egg production the same way we approach all of our farming. It should be natural. The way we raise pastured eggs, or the way the hens do, is that there are no restraints. The hens are let out of the egg mobile or hen house early every morning. They can range as far and wide as they choose. There are no fences or structures that keep them contained. At night the hens return to their houses on their own. By dark everyone is where they belong. There are however dangers to raising hens this way. Predators, foxes and hawks primarily, can make a large dent in the chicken flock due to allowing them to pasture range without restraints. We believe that these are risks worth taking in order to give our chicken’s freedom and being able to bring to our customers incredibly good and good for you eggs.
CSA *Full Egg share (1dozen every week for 20 weeks)- $70

Pastured Poultry
We raise broilers from chicks to about 8 weeks old. Our broilers are grown in 10x12x2 feet high moveable pens. These pens are moved daily and sometimes twice daily to fresh grass. Fresh air, clean water, and grass and bugs to pick make these birds taste phenomenal. Our chickens also receive a supplemental broiler feed with NO hormones or antibiotics. People who have purchased and eaten our birds say they will never eat another chicken from the grocery store again.
Chickens will weigh anywhere from 2.5 to 5 lbs. Pick up at the farm is the first Tuesday of every month with orders being placed the Friday before. Please indicate weights when placing orders. We will do the best we can when filling orders to get approximate weights.

Wooded Pork- Antibiotic/Hormone Free
We raise our pork in the same fashion as all other animals on JMD Farm. They are free ranging in a large wooded area. We do not put rings in their noses so they can do as much rooting as they want. It is truly fun to watch a pig forage naturally in a wholesome environment.
